Troybilt Pony Repower
Due to continuing changes in emission standards put out by the United States EPA and California's CARB the old style "L-Head" engines can no longer be used. The differences between the new style overhead valve engines and the older style engines do not allow for a direct replacement. Instead there are some modifications that need to be done to allow the new style engines to work. Below are pictures and instructions how to install a replacement engine.

  1. Disconnect throttle cable from engine
  2. Remove belt guard
  3. Remove engine mount bolts (and engine guard if equipped)
  4. Remove original engine from equipment
  5. Transfer drive pulleys from original engine to new Intek engine
  6. Install new drive belts (* replace original main drive belt with belt 2 inches LONGER. Replace reverse drive belt with belt 1 inch SHORTER. If original reverse belt is 1/2 inch wide and 1/8 inch thick, replace it with v-belt twisted inside out. See belt side view picture below.)
  7. Install Briggs & Stratton engine spacer kit number 695154
  8. Install Intek engine onto equipment
  9. Install engine mounting bolts (longer bolts will be required)
  10. Install belt cover
  11. Lengthen throttle control wire/casing
  12. Service engine and test run
